Weekly OC Library Events

Baby/Toddler Storytime – Tustin Library, every Monday 10:30-11am (8/14, 8/21, 8/28) Enjoy stories, music, games, and early literacy fun at this storytime for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and their loved ones.
Repeat of Baby/Toddler Storytime at 11:30-12pm

Activities: Seal Beach Library, every Monday 10:30-11am: 8/7 Life-Sized Paper doll craft, 8/14 Paper Plate Jellyfish Craft, 8/21 & 8/28 Music & Movement: This active, music based storytime is geared to children ages 2 – 5, but kids of all ages are welcome. After the fun is over at 11am, stay for some music and playtime with your new friends. No registration required.

Builders’ Club: Dana Point every Monday 2:30-3:30pm: Join for an hour of creative fun in the children’s area with Lego and Duplo blocks, along with other building materials. Free. No registration required.  

S.T.E.A.M Team: Stanton Library, every other Monday from 4-5pm (8/7 & 8/21) Ages 5-12, join for an hour of music, reading, and social play! Free,Have fun learning science, technology, engineering, art, and math (S.T.E.A.M.). Explore different hands-on activities, games, and/or experiments.

Family Board Game Afternoon at the Laguna Hills Technology Library, every Monday 4-6pm: Play one of the board games available or bring your own!

Tiny Tot Time: Ladera Ranch Library, every Tuesday 10-12pm: Drop in with your Tot during Toy Time. Explore a variety of play things, building sets, puppets, sensory objects, and more. Toys are most appropriate for children under 5 years of age though families of all ages are welcome to attend. Registration is not needed. Children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Play & Learn: Irvine Heritage Park Library Tuesdays from 10:20-11am Children of all ages will have an opportunity to learn through play!

Activities: Seal Beach Library, every Tuesday 10:30-11am: 8/1 & 8/22 & 8/29: Music & Movement: This active, music based storytime is geared to children ages 2 – 5, but kids of all ages are welcome. 8/8 Shark Lab: Come learn all about sharks, from CSULB’s Shark Lab scientists. Enjoy shark themed crafts, games, beach, safety trivia. Grades K – 2, but all ages welcome. 8/15 Sand Art Aquariums: Make a home for your fish friend to swim in with a paper plate, real sand, and other craft supplies.  Grades K – 2, but all ages welcome.

Play & Learn at El Toro, Lake Forest Library Tuesdays 10:30-11am (8/22 & 8/29): Enjoy sensory child-directed play, explore a variety of textures, activities, and more. (Best suited for 0 – 4 years of age)

Terrific Tuesdays – Westminster Library, every Tuesday 10:30-11:30am: Join us on Tuesday mornings for books, songs, movement, activities, and fun.

Music and Movement – La Habra Library, every Tuesday 11-11:30am: Get ready to move around and shake your sillies out! Enjoy a fun way to develop early literacy skills in young children with music, dancing, singing, stories and exploration.

Kids Art Lab: Cypress Library 3rd Tuesday of the month: August 15th, 3:30-3:50pm (grades K-2)
4:10-4:30pm (grades 3-5) Join for colors, crafting, and creativity! Crafts can be messy—dress to mess. Space is limited to the first 12 to arrive for each group. No registration required.

STEM Tuesday – Laguna Niguel, select Tuesdays 4:30-6pm 8/1 & 8/15: Discover the fun of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math through hands-on activities for ages 6 and up. Each activity takes us on a new STEAM adventure as we explore, discover and have a fun journey.

Builders’ Club – Library of the Canyons – Every Wednesday 10:30-12:30pm: They provide the manipulatives — things like Legos, puzzles, and other blocks — and participants will build, design, and construct.

Happy Feet Wednesday-San Clemente Library, every other Wednesday 10:30-11am (8/2 & 8/16) Join for a morning of movin’ n groovin to music. Little ones will practice basic movement skills, creative expression, coordination, and self-control while dancing and singing along to children’s songs. Interactive fun for the whole family!

Toddler Playtime – Garden Grove Main Library every Wednesday 11-12pm: Fun and social time for little ones ages 0-5 with a parent or caregiver

Play & Learn: Aliso Viejo Library every Wednesday 11:30-12:30pm (following Toddler Storytime): Join for after storytime for open play! Play and social interactions are a great way for our littlest patrons to learn essential concepts. They provide all the toys. No registration required. (no class 8/9, 8/16)

Activities – Garden Grove Chapman Library every Wednesday 2-3pm: Second Wednesdays are for crafts with a new craft every month, other weeks are puzzles and games or Legos.

Activities – Foothill Ranch every Wednesday 2:30-3:30pm: Join for either chaulk, crafts or boardgames (check the calendar for more info)

Little Coders – Garden Grove Main Library every Wednesday (no class 8/2) 3:30-4:30pm: Screen-Free Beginning Coding for Ages 4 to 8. Kids will learn to use computational thinking and basic programming principles while having fun and working together! Space is limited to the first 24 children.

Activities – Ladera Ranch, every Wednesday at 3:30-4:30pm: 8/2 Read to a Dog: Canine buddies from Orange County Animal Allies visit on the first Wednesday. Sharing a story with a calm and attentive listener helps children build confidence when reading. August 9, 16, 23 & 30 STEM Station: Have fun learning Science, Technology, Engineering and Math! Explore hands-on activities at different STEM stations each week. Most appropriate for ages 4 and up. Duplos will be available for younger children. Registration is not required.

Movie Wednesdays – La Habra, Wednesdays at 4pm, Aug. 2 – Ferdinand, Aug. 9 – Epic, Aug. 23 – Ron’s Gone Wrong & Aug. 30 – Ice Age

Family Fun – Costa Mesa Donald Dungan Library – once a month on Wednesday this month its on 8/30 from 5-6pm: you can make your very own button, magnet, pin, or all three!

Play & Learn: Irvine Heritage Park Library, every Thursday from 10:20-11am. Children of all ages will have an opportunity to learn through play! followed by Preschool Storytime at 11-11:20am.

Play-doh playtime – Foothill Ranch every Thursday 10:30-11:30am: Play with Play-Doh and tools for crafting in this fun hour of sensory play.

Baby and Toddler Playtime Garden Grove Chapman Library every Thursday 10:30-11:30am: Children and caregivers are invited to play with toys and meet new friends at this weekly event!

Dance Party: Rancho Santa Margarita Library, every Thursday 10:30-11am: Dance party is a celebration of music and movement, perfect for active children.  Little ones can practice basic movement skills, creative expression, coordination, and self-control while dancing  to a selection of children’s songs. Fun for the whole family!

Meet & Play – Irvine University Park Library – every Thursday 11-12pm: Babies/toddlers and their caregivers are invited to meet up and play. Children get to play and learn with toys in the children’s area while caregivers can meet others and share tips and more. 

Tinker Tots Stay & Play – La Habra Library, every Thursday 11-12pm: Join us for an hour of games, coloring, and more at the La Habra Library! Stations with different activities—pick a favorite one or try from puzzles to building blocks, there’s something for everyone!

Big Buddies: Rancho Santa Margarita Library, select Thursdays 4-5:30pm (8/24 & 8/31): Meet with a big buddy (a teen volunteer) to work on homework and/or practice reading in a fun and friendly environment! For students in grades K-6

Chess Club Irvine University Park Library – Every Thursday 4-5pm:  All children are welcome to come and play chess with their friends or a stranger. Learn how to play the game and improve your skills. All skill levels are welcome. No registration is required. 

Lego Block Party – Irvine University Park Library – Every Friday 3-4pm: Children are invited to play and create for an hour with Lego blocks. Big blocks are available for the youngest builders and smaller blocks for the older builders.

LEGO Building Club El Toro, Lake Forest Library last Friday of the month, Aug. 25th 3-4pm : Master builders of all levels are invited to join El Toro’s Lego Building club, where we will create, learn and grow!

Family Scavenger Hunt: Ladera Ranch Library, every Saturday 10-4pm: Rain or shine, it’s scavenger hunt time! Join us for the indoor scavenger hunt. Follow the map and find the clues! There is a different theme each week. Earn a prize and a gift book. All ages are welcome. Registration is not required.

LegoMania: Seal Beach Library, every Saturday 10-4pm: All ages, come build whatever you’d like with our huge collection of Lego bricks and toddler safe Duplos. Name and display your creation in the library for all to see. No registration required

Sensory Playtime – San Clemente Library, every Saturday 10:30-12pm: Join engaging Sensory Playtime. Awaken the senses with a sensory playground that will keep all ages captivated using sight, sound, and touch. All ages. No registration required.

Activities (playtime or family boardgames – Foothill Ranch every Saturday 10:30-11:30am: July 8th & 22nd Drop in for playtime in the Kid Zone, intended for children ages 6 and under.  Toys and games will be available for self-directed play. July 15 & 29 Join for a fun hour and discover new board games to play with family and friends.

Lego Lab: Cypress Library Saturdays 10:30-11:30am: Join for an hour of Lego Stay-and-Play. Use your building skills and imagination to create Lego masterpieces. Choose a challenge card for extra fun! No registration required.

Toddler Play & Learn – Laguna Niguel, every Saturday 11-12pm: For babies up to 3 with an adult, free sensory playtime with toys and music.

Family Movie Afternoons – La Palma, every Saturday 2-4pm: Join for a movie & craft

Family Fun – Rancho Santa Margarita Library, every Saturday 2pm: 8/5 Craftapaloza, 8/12 Game On! to play board games, 8/19 Bark! Beginning readers are invited to come to the library and practice their reading skills by reading to certified therapy dogs. 8/26 Family Movie: The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Teen & Adult Sewing – Laguna Niguel, select Saturdays 2-4pm 8/5, 8/19. This workshop is an open lab where you can bring any sewing project you’re working on and get help, support, and inspiration as we all create together! Supplies are provided by the library (including fabric and thread), but bringing your own is recommended if you have a personal project or a preferred fabric. Teens 12+ and adults are welcome. 

LEGO Club – Laguna Beach Library, every Saturday from 3-4pm: Library provides LEGOs, base plates, challenges, and space. Separate areas for younger and older children. Guardian supervision is required.

Play@Wheeler Family Program – Irvine Katie Wheeler Library – every Sunday 11-12pm: A variety of toys, puzzles, and tabletop games for all ages will be available in the children’s area on the second floor. Spend quality time with family and make new friends.

Builder’s Club – Costa Mesa, Mesa Verde Branch – every 1st & 3rd Sunday from 11-12pm (8/20) Join us for an hour of creative fun as children and their families build and play in the children’s area. We supply the Lego and Duplo blocks, along with other building materials, and you supply the creativity!

Lego Club – Garden Grove Main Library – only 8/6 – typically Sundays 2-3pm: Build with LEGOs to your heart’s content. For all ages (under 6 with an accompanying adult). Bring the whole family!

Lego Mania – La Habra Library – Every Sunday 2-4pm: Design, build, and express your creativity with Lego! Join us every Sunday for an afternoon of innovation.  All ages welcome.
