Oso Viejo Community Park’s Tale Trail

Follow along the paved path of the Tale Trail to read the pages of the book. Look for prompts on the bottom of each page for things like “march to the next page” “look for birds” “feel your heart beat” and things like that. A kids get involved as they travel to each page. Stories change every 3-4weeks! Plans to possibly move the trail this Fall. If you visit, tag your photos with #MVTaleTrail & #MVLife.

After the book is complete, follow along the paved path and you will pass the outdoor fitness equipment and murals along the way. Continue on past the Bocce Courts (when courts are not in use you can reserve them). There is also a spot to fill up your water bottle here. Continue on the path and you will find the Mama bear and cub statue. Next look for the baby bear near a set of chairs. Pass picnic tables in the shade and the Community Center (restrooms inside) and this leads to the playground with tall slides, soft sand and swings. Additional restrooms can be found close to the parking lot.

You can also access the Oso Creek Trails from here (various paths to enter the trail) there are stairs in the middle of the Tale Trail (take them down and you can see a bridge over the creek) or past the playground and baseball fields you will see a paved path to enter the trails. These are high trafficked family friendly as well as dog friendly walking paths that lead to a butterfly garden, hedge maze, bridges over the creek and look for mosaic accents along the trails.

Also keep an eye out for painted rocks as they are commonly found along the trails here!

Restrooms located near the parking lot by the playground or additional restrooms within the Community Center.

How to get to the Tale Trail

Located at Oso Viejo Community Park – drive until the end of Veterans Way and you will see a sign for “Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center”.

Two ways to start, either start at the playground or at the Tale Trail! Both have paved paths the whole way which makes for a stroller friendly trail.

  1. Enter in the parking lot and turn left and park & you will pass the restrooms and follow the path right to the Oso Viejo Community Park playground. You can follow the path from the playground (there is even a bridge from the play structure that leads to the path). Next you will pass the shaded picnic tables and look for the bears! Continue on the paved path to the Tale Trail – you will find the trail at the end of the grass loop with the entrance being close to the parking lot. You will see a paved path coming from the hill and the first page is at the bottom in the grass.
  2. Turn right and go past the Community Center and drive to the farthest part of the parking lot. This will be the closest entrance to the Tale Trail. Once you enter the path look for where a paved path from up the hill meets the grass. The first page will be there. Follow the pages along the path and continue on the path and it will lead you past the Bocce Ball, past the bears, Community Center, picnic tables & then the playground.
