Dana Strands Beach & Funicular

Walk along the colorful mosaic walk way created to look like water with fish, with tables and benches along the way that overlook the beach and multi-million dollar homes.

Since there is free parking, it is a great spot to bring and enjoy a coffee, donuts, lunch or the sunset.

On the South side you will see a memorial for Veterans “Dedicated to the fallen heros and in honor of those who serve” and if you follow along to the North side you will see restrooms and can ride the Funicular.

Funicular

During the summer you can ride the Funicular to the sand! The Funicular is like a small inclined elevator that takes from the parking lot to the beach and then back up.
FREE to ride the inclined elevator
  • Goes 2-3mph (it’s quiet) click the button to go
  • Open Memorial Day until Labor Day & then weekends & holidays year-round during daylight hours.
  • No guarantee that it will always be running
  • Those with disabilities that would like to use the Funicular when it isn’t running can call (949) 248-3574 to request use

Beach

  • Various paths down to the sand, if you enter from the Funicular or the path you can turn left to find wooden to paved path called the Revetment Trail or go right to see a rocky beach
  • Be aware: the beach gets narrow during high tide, especially in the middle
  • Lifeguards only on duty during the Summer
  • Dogs only allowed on top walking path by the Parking lot – no dogs allowed on the beach

5 ways to the beach – all these ways can make a loop path along Revetment Trail (wooden to paved path) on the beach:

1. Take the Funicular down to the beach
2. Take the stairs behind the Funicular to the beach
3. Take the stairs in the middle of the path between houses (behind the orange fish)
4. Take the stairs down by the memorial
5. There is also a switch back path with stairs down to the beach, enter from Dana Strand Rd (little outside the parking lot – there is street parking there as well)
