Dana Point Headlands Trail (Dana Point Preserve)

Trail behind the Dana Point Interpretive Center (open 10-4pm Tues-Sunday) –  where you can learn more about the area and the natural plants and animals. There you can also borrow binoculars to use along the trail as well as we got a scavenger hunt for kids to look for plants and animals.

The trail does have a locked door so you must visit when the trail is open, currently open daily from 7am to Sunset.

The path is all dirt/sand so be prepared with steps along the way. Various view points with informational signs and benches to take in the ocean views.

It is one mile from the Interpretive Center to the top of the trail which is at the end of Dana Strand Road, you can walk back the same way you came as and in/out trail or you can make it a 1.5mile loop walk. Check the map here. 

You can also access Dana Point Strands Beach from the trail, follow the path from the Interpretive Center to Dana Strand Road in which you will see an entrance down the switchback path with stairs down to the beach. Check the map here. 

No dogs allowed on the trail.

Restrooms

Restrooms located on the back side of the Dana Point Interpretive Center Building from 10-4pm.
